A French expression meaning to paint outdoors, artwork created en plein air aims to capture the ephemeral effects of light as moments in space and time. Nature in its quiet, or dramatic gestures, people captured in private moments in public places, street scenes capturing the interplay of buildings, sun, shadows, textures, humanity in movement - all will be on display on our gallery walls!

Come visit the NAA to visit a show exclusively about showcasing paper — a foundational tool and a regular feature of many artists' practices. This exhibition will feature all types of works on paper, works of paper, works about paper, sculptural works, book works, collage, and so forth. From July 5th to the 21st, our walls will be adorned with over 150 works by our artists, to be enjoyed by art lovers coming from far and wide!

NAA National Juried Show

Newburyport Art is proud to announce its first National Juried Show, juried by Peabody Essex Museum (PEM) Curator Jane Winchell — the Sarah Fraser Robbins Director of PEM’s Dotty Brown Art & Nature Center and Curator of the museum's Natural History collection. An opening reception will take place from 5-7pm on Friday, May 24th, with a small awards presentation led by the juror.

The award winner of the $2,000 Art Adventure Grant will be announced at approximately 4:15. The reception is free and open to the public with light refreshments served.
Art Adventure Grant 2024 Exhibition

Through the generous support of The Hemphill Family Foundation, Newburyport Art is proud to administer the annual Art Adventure Grant. This year’s award is $2,000, and applicants have each been invited to show one of their works as part of a representative exhibition in the NAA’s second-floor Hartson Gallery.
Flowers for OpArt

Flowers for OpArt runs alongside OpArt's annual exhibition, bursting with anything and everything "flowers". It runs physically adjacent to OpArt's exhibition, visually demonstrating the community's warmest support for this wonderful and very important program. A portion of the proceeds from sales of artwork in Flowers for OpArt will directly benefit OpArt programming.

A wide range of artist perspectives are explored through an equally wide range of subject matter — including wildlife, landscapes, cityscapes, community, the environment, and the abstract.
