Guest Artist Talk: Clare Wilson

  • Newburyport Art Association 65 Water Street Newburyport, MA 01950 USA (map)

As the Newburyport Art Association continues to celebrate 2022 as the International Year of Glass, this year’s second artist talk will feature UK-based glass artist Clare Wilson, and is being delivered in conjunction with the NAA’s Glass Concepts: Transparency exhibition (open April 22nd-May 15th). The talk will be moderated by NAA Executive Director and glass artist Dr. Lisa Naas, with a goal of not only highlighting Clare’s practice, but also her artistic brand development, to enable a wide conversation and insight for the greater NAA community. There will be ample opportunity for Q&A.

Clare was trained in the Venetian style of glassblowing, with studies completed in the United Kingdom and Australia. Her practice is split between producing unique works for exhibition and creating commissioned work for both individuals and businesses. Clare works primarily with cane and murrine techniques in making functional art objects. Her choice of employing a muted palette heightens her signature frenetic patterning. She is drawn to glass, and working with cane in particular, because of the technical challenges involved, as well as the infinite possibilities available in the application of the technique.

As Clare is based in the UK, she will be joining via Zoom. Anyone wishing to join the talk may register on Zoom, or come watch and engage from the NAA galleries at 65 Water Street.

This talk is taking place alongside the NAA’s show Glass Concepts: Transparency.
