The Abstract Artists Group of New England 20th Annual Exhibit brings together the work of nineteen abstract artists at the Newburyport Art Association.
A featured interest group of the Newburyport Art Association, AAGNE was started twenty years ago to support and promote abstract artists. The group meets monthly to critique each other’s work and to share ideas and resources.
The show includes oils, pastels, watercolors, acrylics, collages, fiber art, vinegar paint, and sculpture, and a wide variety of artistic visions all sharing a love of the abstract. While the works displayed are not traditional landscapes or portraits, some artists are inspired by the essence of a scene, suggesting the movement and shape of the sea, for example, rather than depicting actual waves. At the same time, the viewer need not search for any realistic objects in these pieces but instead is invited to directly experience shape, line, color, and texture that can evoke emotion, recollection, or simply connection.
The exhibit showcases the work of Muriel Angelil, Pamela Bearor-Amiralian, Julie Bethmann, Tarja Cockell, Sharyn Dahn, Carin Doben, Cheryl Dyment, Susan Duane, Renée Giffroy, Marcia Herson, Ethel Hills, Heather Karp, Bonnie Lake, Barbara London, Bonnie Jean Malcolm, Madalene Axford Murphy, Sinikka Nogelo, Lisa Panaccione, and Suzanne Papin.
