  • Newburyport Art Association 65 Water Street Newburyport, MA 01950 USA (map)

Introducing Members’ Fall Juried Show juried by Babette Wheelden. Just over 90 works were selected out of 150 total submissions. The theme of this show is Human: Nature, where artists were asked to submit work that responded to the prompt; How do we, as humans, care, connect, and become responsible for our natural environment?

Join Babette and the artists for a free opening reception & awards ceremony on Saturday, October 4 (4-6 PM)!

  • I believe in artists inspiring artists. I incorporate learning with my artistic practice. My work is cyclical, it is born out of a combination of my education, experiences and those I educate. This allows for my perspectives as an artist to grow and expand while fusing traditional and contemporary. My art is about identity, perspective, and some subtle humor. Born in Minnesota, educated outside of Chicago, my life moved east to New England in the late 1990’s. Since moving to New England I am drawn to the landscape and environment.

My work is primarily painting and photography but I also create wearable art inspired by the same muse, my view. As a self-diagnosed AO (Aesthetically Obsessed) I am intentionally finding myself in beautiful and inspiring locations. With this I create...

My process in creating these paintings involves pouring paint onto the canvas and working intuitively with whatever emerges. I then paint with brushes to add forms and layers. I leave the dripping paint on the sides of some of the paintings as a record of this process, like footprints in the sand.
