The Member Spotlight series at Newburyport Art is a new initiative, featuring a solo showcase of work in the newly designated Mural Gallery — the hallway and staircase bridging the downstairs Sargent Gallery and upstairs Hartson Gallery.
The current Member Spotlight is on NAA Artist Member Pat Kennedy-Corlin, who presents Canines of Cuba: A Fated Photographic Journey — a stunning collection of canine portraits taken in Cuba during an emotional time of her life.
From Pat: “I fell in love with Cuba the moment I landed. Halfway through the trip, I suffered a devastating family loss. Try as I may, it was impossible to get an emergency flight home. In a surreal and shattered state, I spent my remaining days sitting on the sidewalks in the cities of Havana and Trinidad. With my camera in hand, the dogs of the streets welcomed me. Three years on, I returned to the island to complete 'The Canines Of Cuba’ Photographic Journey. Born of a broken heart, this body of work became the gift that helped heal my soul.”

It has been my great honor to create legacy images for my clients, their families and their pets. In my studio sessions I simply love ‘Controlling the Light’ and creating portraits that bring joy to last a lifetime. Recently transitioning my focus from studio work to the field, I now indulge my passion for creating Fine Art Imagery, taking great pleasure in ’Chasing the Light’, while seeking to capture the unexpected. While documenting the amazing experience of life on this planet, I always feel as if someone should pinch me, because I get to do what I love, each and every day! I find I am never happier than when I am gifted the opportunity to simply roam with my cameras. And the artistic legacy I strive to achieve is to create a body of work honoring where I have been and all beings that I have encountered along the way.
