Member Spotlight | Grace Scarlet: A Celebration of Color

  • Newburyport Art Association 65 Water Street Newburyport, MA 01950 USA (map)

The Member Spotlight series at Newburyport Art is a new initiative, featuring a solo showcase of work in the newly designated Mural Gallery — the hallway and staircase bridging the downstairs Sargent Gallery and upstairs Hartson Gallery. The current spotlight is on Grace Scarlet, who presents A Celebration of Color.

Be sure to join Grace on Saturday, December 3 from 5-7pm, to meet with the artist for a light reception as part of Newburyport Art’s Holiday Party. Free and open to the public.

More about the Grace and her Spotlight…

Design, Movement, Color, Feeling, Awe, Beauty, Elegance and JOY! These are just a few of the words that come to mind when viewing a painting by Grace Scarlet. Grace has always been fascinated with vivid color. Anything colorful makes her heart sing! She uses rich, "heavy body," acrylic paints through most of her work to achieve the aesthetic she desires. Several years ago, she learned that Vincent Van Gogh favored the palette knife and couldn't wait to try it. This has been one of her favorite tools ever since. Grace paints with thoughtful intuition and bold imagination, which inspires the feeling that goes into each, authentic piece.

When asked how long it takes to make a painting, she answers with a shy, but beautiful smile, "It takes a lifetime." At age three she began drawing and painting and simply never put down her brushes. Many days of active passion are lavished upon each painting as she incorporates layers of color, motion and feeling that shapes the beauty and value of each piece.

Grace expresses joy and an elegant touch of class through each one-of-a-kind masterpiece. She hopes that you will reach out and touch her paintings. Go ahead! Great art is meant to be enjoyed!
