Flowers for the Hills: Celebrating the Hills Gallery at 20!

The NAA’s Hills Gallery is 20 years old this year! After converting an old coal weigh station, the Newburyport Art Association opened the doors to the Laura Coombs Hills Gallery, named after one of its most prominent and successful founding members. Born in Newburyport in 1859, Hills made her career as an artist, rising to national prominence and regularly returning to Newburyport for summers. While she worked in several media, she was most known for her floral pastels and miniature paintings.
To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of our Hills Gallery, the NAA is hosting the first of a two-part show in the Hills, and NAA artists were asked to contribute their artwork featuring flowers. The resulting exhibition is an explosion of color that makes one feel like they are strolling through a greenhouse. This exhibit features a diverse collection of art from over 70 artists, all approaching flowers from a unique perspective:
