In operation since 1948, the NAA has become the cornerstone of the greater Newburyport vibrant arts scene with over 600 artists and non-artist members from around the region.  The NAA’s mission includes art exhibitions, education, and community outreach to keep the arts accessible for all. Last year we awarded over $12,000 in scholarships to high school seniors through the ArtLink program, increased the number of participants in OpArt- an art program for disabled adults, expanded our educational offerings, and presented over forty juried and open art exhibits. We thank the artists and the patrons that have helped us thrive for 72 years!

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, we made the very difficult decision to not only close the doors to the NAA galleries for the foreseeable future but to lay off our wonderful and dedicated staff. It saddens us to leave such a void in the arts scene.

We are still providing our 2020 scholarships to high school seniors and we are maintaining our beautiful Range Light Sculpture Garden for the enjoyment of the community – while recognizing social distancing. We are also moving our exciting Regional Juried Show online which will go live on May 1st.  We are working hard to help bring the arts to the community virtually!

While we are closed the Board of Directors, along with the help of community volunteers are planning for the NAA’s future.  Our goal remains as it has always been –  to provide access to the arts and arts education for all in our community. With a volunteer crew, we are working behind the scenes to prepare the NAA to return stronger and more vibrant than ever before and look forward to welcoming you all back with our annual auction on September 26th.

These events have had a devastating financial impact on the organization as we have lost all revenue from exhibits and art sales. In turn, this affects the artists, who are the heart and soul of the arts community as they lose this outlet to exhibit, to learn, to teach, and to sell their work.

If you have the ability, please consider donating to the “NAA New Dawn” campaign to ensure that we can open our doors to the artists and the community to keep the arts accessible to all.  Our goal is to raise $50,000 to cover operating expenses and prepare for the reopening of the NAA.
