- Session 2: Fundamentals of Drawing, Level 2
October 25, 2019 - November 15, 2019
For those who have already taken the Fundamentals of Drawing I class or who have previous drawing experience, this intermediate class will continue to build on skills learned, and explore aspects of realist drawings from life and occasionally from master drawings. We will be using still life, natural forms, plaster casts, and human beings when we can get them! We will also work on knowledge of drawing materials, which in this class will include colored pencils, pan pastel, pen, and ink.
“Mastering the basic principles of art does not limit expression, distinctiveness, or personal freedom in our work. Rather, it strengthens these qualities by giving them structure.” Juliette Aristides

About Susan Spellman-
Susan Spellman started her art career as a staff illustrator at a filmstrip company after getting a BA in art from Marymount College in NY. She next worked as a freelance illustrator of children’s books and magazines, and has illustrated more than 30 books to date. While continuing to work as an illustrator and a portrait artist, Susan has been focusing more attention in the last 10 years on her own work as a painter. Her primary interest is to capture those fleeting moments when the combination of light and color feels magical and all the elements combine to create a story. She works primarily on site, painting “en plein air” in oil paint on either canvas or panels. The inspiration for her work comes primarily from the richness of the natural world in and around the Newburyport area.
