- En Plein Air, hands on demo
August 24, 2019
2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
This workshop is for those that have wanted to go outside and paint “En Plein Air” but might not know what is involved and how to start. In this workshop, we will discuss the joys and challenges of painting outside, materials needed, how to set up your supplies and palette, and what and where to paint. There will be a short power point with a brief history of this style of painting and a sampling of different supplies. If the weather allows, we will be going outside in back of the NAA to give it a try!
If you have an easel and painting supplies, please bring them and we will go over how to set them up. If not, come see a sample demo and just bring a sketchbook and drawing instrument.
Saturday, August 24, 2-4pm
2 hours of instruction

About the Instructor – Susan Spellman started her art career as a staff illustrator at a filmstrip company after getting a BA in art from Marymount College in NY. She next worked as a freelance illustrator of children’s books and magazines, and has illustrated more than 30 books to date. While continuing to work as an illustrator and a portrait artist, Susan has been focusing more attention in the last 10 years on her own work as a painter. Her primary interest is to capture those fleeting moments when the combination of light and color feels magical and all the elements combine to create a story. She works primarily on site, painting “en plein air” in oil paint on either canvas or panels. The inspiration for her work comes primarily from the richness of the natural world in and around the Newburyport area.
