The NAA welcomes all artists, art lovers, and community members. As a nonprofit center for visual arts committed to keeping art accessible to all, we depend on your support to fulfill our mission. When you become a member of the NAA, you invest in the future of our organization. Your membership dues make our exhibitions, education, and community programs possible, sustain our building, galleries, and sculpture garden, and ensure that there will be a warm and welcoming space for artists and community to connect for years to come.

Membership is rolling and is valid for 365 days, from the date you join. If you have difficulty joining online, stop by our galleries and the staff will walk through the process with you.

What’s in a membership?

Artist Membership - $65

  • Eligibility to exhibit in all member juried and open shows held at Newburyport Art and partner businesses & organizations

  • Promotion and sales for all exhibited work through the Newburyport Art website and social media

  • Eligibility to apply for solo shows, such as the Featured Artist series in the Hills Gallery, the Member Spotlight series in the Mural Gallery, and the Art Around Town series in partner businesses & organizations

  • Discounted rates on NAA classes, workshops, and select special events

  • Business/vendor/partner discounts, such as 10% off at Newburyport Framers

  • Membership directory listing, including artist website and social media links

  • Weekly e-newsletter from the Executive Director, highlighting current & upcoming exhibitions, opportunities, classes, events, news, and more

  • Invitation to Annual Meeting and other special events & opportunities for members

  • Waived entry fee for any family member participating in the annual Young & Budding Artists exhibition

Artist Plus Membership - $165

  • All Artist Membership benefits, plus two free submissions to almost every call for art

Early Career Artist Membership - $25

  • All Artist Membership benefits, at at a subsidized rate for artists 25 years of age or younger

Community Membership - $50

  • All Artist Membership benefits, with the exception of benefits related to calls for art and exhibiting work

Membership FAQs

  • YES! Newburyport Art is proud to participate in the Card to Culture program, a collaboration between the Mass Cultural Council and the Department of Transitional Assistance, the Women, Infants & Children (WIC) Nutrition Program, and the Massachusetts Health Connector, by broadening accessibility to cultural programming.

    EBT, WIC, and ConnectorCare cardholders get 50% off of a regular Artist Membership (regularly $65) or Early Career Membership (regularly $25). To register, connect with us at naa@newburyportart.org and we will walk through the process, or just give us a visit or phone call!

  • Artists or art lovers who are 65 years of age or older receive 10% off their annual membership dues.

    To receive this discount, you must type in ‘senior’ into the discount code option in the final step of your membership registration/renewal.

  • It depends entirely on how active you plan to be with us! Newburyport Art offers discounted rates (typically 10%) on classes/workshops, and two free submission entries to almost every call for art. If you plan to submit a lot of work and/or if you plan to be involved in our educational offerings, an ‘Artist Plus’ membership might be the best decision for you.

  • Each individual call for art will provide specific detail regarding the commission split. Typically, exhibitions yield a 60% commission to the artist, with a few exceptions. Featured Artist (FA) and Featured Interest Group (FIG) shows typically yield 75% to the artist, and Member Spotlights yield 80% to the artist.

    Newburyport Art is in the midst of overhauling its most central databases and processes. We have plans to launch a member portal in May of this year, with various facets of this new system being rolled out slowly and in stages. Members will be can stay updated through the weekly e-newsletter.
