The Newburyport Art Association in collaboration with The Hemphill Family Foundation continues to support a $1500 grant program for NAA adult artists (25 years and older) in support of your artmaking.
Please note: pre-pandemic, this grant was all about the adventure, which often included travel. This time around, you might invest in remote learning options or choose to stay put and update/expand your tools/supplies or workspace. We are very flexible – safety first!
All Master Artists with a current membership have the opportunity to apply for a free, 2-week solo show, in the Laura Coombs Hills gallery. Our galleries are currently fully booked for solo show dates in 2021 due to the cancellations of shows from the Covid-19 shutdown in 2020. Applications for solo shows in 2022 will be available in the spring of 2021. Thank you!
The application is available here.

The Donald Jurney Traveling Fellowship
The Fellowship provides one grant per year to an emerging or mid-career artist, working in a traditional representational manner, for painting or study in Europe during the year following application. Applicants must be a US resident. The award to the winning Fellow is $5000. The painter need not be a landscape painter. The funds in the award are intended to defray costs of travel both to and within Europe, and to help defray costs of lodging, meals, and art materials, etc. An application may be made at any time but typically must be received by December 15th of the year preceding the year of travel. Note: Applications for travel in 2021 are currently on hold due to travel complications from the Covid-19 pandemic. For more information or to receive email updates about the status of the Donald Jurney Traveling Fellowship application process, please email [email protected] with the subject line “Jurney Fellowship” and we will put you on our email list. Thank you!
Keep Art Accessible For All! Donate to NAA New Dawn Capital Campaign
In operation since 1948, the NAA is a corner-stone of the greater Newburyport vibrant arts scene with over 600 artists and members from around the region. Our mission includes art exhibitions, arts education, and community outreach, especially to students and adults with disabilities, to keep the arts accessible for all.
When the COVID-19 crisis forced us to close our doors from March to October, there was a void felt in both art and community. Thanks to the efforts of the NAA Board and our committed supporters, we re-opened to the public on November 6th with The Power of Art: Members Open Show, featuring stunning work by over 90 of our member artists.
As we approach the end of the year and the final weeks of our “NAA New Dawn” campaign, please consider making a donation to help us meet our $50,000 goal to cover operating expenses. With your generosity, we will be able to continue our vital work for many years to come. Thank you! To Donate, click Count Me In!
The Newburyport Art Association is a 501(c )(3) non-profit organization.
