Susan Luca began formal fine art studies by attending classes at the Sharon Art Center in Sharon, NH and the New Hampshire Institute of Art in Manchester, NH and the Dennis Sheehan Academy of Art in Bedford, NH.
Susan is a member of the Lyme Art Association, Newburyport Art Association, Concord Art Association, Newburyport Ten, and Essex County Painters. She has won awards and been accepted for juried shows in Massachusetts and Connecticut, including a show at the Lyman Allyn Museum in New London, CT.
Susan’s purpose in painting is a search to express the beauty, multiplicity and drama of nature. She has chosen the methods of American Tonalism, Barbizon, Luminist and Hudson River schools to create this quest for meaningful landscape portrayals. The techniques of tonalism allow her to obtain dramatic contrasts of light and dark, while keeping a consistent chroma to bring overall to a painting and engage the viewer in a mysterious presentation of nature.
