As a child, Eckian was mesmerized by his Slovakian grandmother’s oil paints. When he was five, he began crushing different colored sandstone, creating piles of pigments. Unlike most children that draw with crayons, Tobin would melt his crayons and paint with them.
Eckian studied art at Seton Hill College, Westminster College, The University of Boulder and Lesley College and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Expressive Therapies. He maintains two studios, one in New Hampshire and one in Newburyport and has been painting since the 1970’s.
