After graduating with a BFA from Temple University's Tyler School of Art, Mary began a career in art education.
She has taught elementary art, over a period of 25 years,in a variety of schools in Philadelphia and North Shore Massachusetts.
In retirement, she began oil painting in Pat Lutz's art studio in the Tannery in Newburyport.
In 2010 she joined the NAA and has achieved success in exhibiting in many juried shows and all the open member shows.
Mary enjoys experimenting with different methods and materials. She mostly uses oil paint and cold wax to achieve the textures she desires. She uses palette knives to apply the paint which allows her to keep her images fresh, loose and textural.
Her subject matter consists mainly of portraits(people and animals)and figurative work. In recent years,a significant number of paintings have been of her four granddaughters playing on the beach.
