Description
This year, the shaker village in Canterbury, New Hampshire celebrates its 50th anniversary as a museum dedicated to preserving the history of the Canterbury Shakers. I first saw it as a child on the first or second year it was open when it was still inhabited by by members of the religious community. The Shakers were well known for their ingenuity and clean design of furniture and architecture with the focus on simplicity, utility, and honesty. One thing I learned as a child was that they developed paint that didn’t peel and Sherwin-Williams was testing chip samples to figure out why.
