David Whitney

“By far the hardest part of photography is learning how to see”, said Galen Rowell.  In this show, David’s first solo exhibition at the NAA, he shares his personal photographic vision and impressions of scenes that surround us. The natural world is a common subject in his work, but his subjects can range from Harvard Square to Half Dome. The creation of his images is driven by the qualities of light and form that present themselves, rather than a specific subject matter.  Working in either color or black and white, he strives for the representation that might evoke in the viewer a strong shared emotional experience.

David works with 35mm format digital equipment and produces his own archival quality prints. His work has been juried into shows at the Newburyport Art Association, the Concord Art Association, and the Essex Art Center. He received a 2005 Newburyport Area Industrial Development Foundation Award for his work.

Light Impressions will be presented at the Newburyport Art Association in the Laura Coombs Hills Gallery. The show will run from August 21st through September 3rd, 2008. A reception will be held on Friday evening, August 22nd, from 7 to 9 pm at the Hills Gallery. The public is cordially invited to meet the photographer and enjoy refreshments. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, 11 am to 5 pm, and Sunday 1 pm to 5 pm. For further information and directions, please contact the Newburyport Art Association at 978-465-8769.
