- Outside In: Landscape & Expression
March 28, 2018 - May 2, 2018
8:00 am - 5:00 pm
At it’s best, art transports us inside an artist’s mind to what he is expressing when he paints. For example, deep woods, hunters returning home, a field of wheat or a gigantic mountain range: appreciation of life and nature yes, and what else? In this class we will concentrate on the last question: what are your landscape paintings telling us? We’ll look at some famous and not so famous landscape paintings and talk about what they reveal to the viewer. Each student will then create a painting or series of paintings based on an articulated idea of his or her choosing. First class begins with a slideshow. Handouts.

Sue has been painting for twenty years and has taught painting since 2002. She emphasizes teaching the acquisition of observation skills—perceiving a painting as a series of abstract hierarchal relationships, and trusting and encouraging each artist’s original work methods and expression. Sue is represented by Powers Gallery in Acton, Alpers Gallery in Andover, Islesford Artists Gallery on Little Cranberry Island, ME , the South Street Gallery in Hingham.
