Painting with wax
Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of encaustic painting: set up and safety, application of the medium, fusing the layers, etching into the wax and building texture.
The next level
Students will learn some more advanced techniques to apply to their encaustic paintings: graphite and Xerox transfers, collaging paper, mark making and applying pigment, and incorporating found objects.
Putting it all together
Students will then apply the skills and techniques demonstrated in the first two weeks in order to develop and explore their own personal ideas and expression through imagery and mark-making. Students are encouraged to bring in their own materials to incorporate into their pieces.
At the completion of the workshop, students will understand the fundamentals of encaustic painting and will be provided with handouts for the different processes and supplies that were covered in the course. Students will have a number of small studies completed in the three classes.
